Siemens is launching two new powerful, fanless, embedded industrial PCs for use in harsh industrial environments. The Simatic IPC427E Microbox PC and the Simatic IPC477E Panel PC are equipped with the latest PC technology, such as Intel Xeon and Intel Core-i processors of the 6th generation, as well as DDR4 RAM of up to 16 GB. The new IPCs are designed for maintenance-free, 24-hour operation, and satisfy tough requirements in terms of temperature, vibration, shock, and EMC. The flexibly configurable and expandable units with robust metal enclosures are suitable for demanding, maintenance-free automation solutions, mounted directly on the machine, for example, in wind power or solar plants or in tire manufacture. The IPC427E Microbox PC offers flexible installation options, while the IPC477E Panel PC has an integrated industrial touchscreen display in widescreen format, with screen sizes of 15″, 19″ or 22″. Both these space-saving, fanless IPCs can be deployed in a wide variety of applications, including communication tasks, measuring, open and closed loop control or HMI tasks.

The embedded Simatic IPC427E Microbox PC for machine, plant and control panel construction is suitable as a compact PC platform for use at machine or process level in the industrial environment. Applications range from complex control tasks (in high-level languages) and visualization solutions to production-level data acquisition and analysis. Thanks to the fanless design and SSD (Solid-State Drive) hard disks or CFast memory, the Microbox PC does not need any rotating parts at all and therefore offers a higher level of system availability. The device has three LAN 10/100/1000 Mbit/s ports with teaming capability as well as four high-speed USB 3.0 ports and two optional serial interfaces. The Microbox PC offers flexible mounting options – on DIN rails, wall-mounting or book-format – and can easily be expanded with two PCIe slots.

The embedded Simatic IPC477E Panel PC, which is likewise designed for use directly on the machine, combines robustness, high reliability and open architecture. With a low installation profile, it can also be used where space is limited. The embedded Panel PC is particularly suitable as a platform for PC-based automation in production and process automation, where it is installed in control panels and consoles as well as 19″ cabinets or racks. The compact Simatic IPC477E, consisting of a control unit with integral processor unit, has two display ports, for example for additional monitors, and a wide range of interfaces: three LAN 10/100/1000 Mbit/s, four high-speed USB V3.0 and two COM ports (RS232/RS485).
